What is male hypogonadism and its treatment?

Male hypogonadism is a disorder caused by the less production of testosterone (male sex hormone). This condition leads to reduced sexual drive, impotence, feeling tired depressed, and reduced muscle mass.

Male hypogonadism can be classified into two: Primary and secondary

Primary Hypogonadism: It leads to decreased testosterone production due to genetic factors, trauma, chemotherapy, or undescended testicles.

Secondary Hypogonadism: It is due to the problem that lies in the pituitary gland or hypothalamus in the brain, which involves sending signals to the brain. It is due to tumors, trauma, certain medications, and obesity.

 Treatment

The treatment aims to raise testosterone levels back to normal and relieve the symptoms caused by low testosterone levels.

Cernos depot 1gm injection: It is a hormonal drug belonging to the group of androgen, containing an active ingredient called testosterone, which is used to treat male hypogonadism.

Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT): This is the most common treatment, which involves the administration of testosterone through injections, gels, patches, or pellets placed under the skin. This therapy helps increase testosterone levels, improving symptoms such as low libido, tiredness, and mood disturbances.

Lifestyle Changes: Obesity or other lifestyle factors are also a reason for this condition. It can be improved by losing weight, exercising regularly, and managing stress.

Clomiphene Citrate: It is a traditional method used to treat infertility, which can stimulate the production of testosterone. It is often used in cases of secondary hypogonadism.

Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) Therapy: It is a hormone therapy that stimulates the secretion of testosterone. It can be used in combination with other therapies to increase testosterone levels.

Gonadotropin Therapy: Gonadotropin injections (FSH and LH) can be given to stimulate the testes directly to treat infertility.

The treatment always depends on the cause of hypogonadism and the health condition of the individual. Therefore, individuals experiencing symptoms of hypogonadism should consult a healthcare professional for proper treatment.
