An Overview of Gastric cancer

The stomach is situated in the upper abdomen and is a type of muscular organ. It is a part of the digestive system. Gastric cancer or stomach cancer occurs when the stomach cells start multiplying and dividing abnormally or uncontrollably.

What are the various symptoms of gastric cancer? In a patient having gastric cancer, the following symptoms are seen, 

  • Yellowing of the skin and eyes (jaundice)

  • Black stools

  • Heartburn or indigestion

  • Early satiety (feeling full after eating only a small meal)

  • Fatigue or weakness

  • Loss of appetite

  • Bloating 

  • Nausea 

  • Vomiting 

  • Sudden loss of weight 

  • Abdominal pain

  • Trouble swallowing


To prevent the risk of developing gastric cancer, the following preventive tips can be followed,

  • A healthy diet packed with fruits, vegetables, nuts and seeds

  • Stopping or limiting alcohol consumption 

  • Stopping the habit of smoking

  • Minimizing the exposure to harmful chemicals 

  • Maintaining a healthy weight 

  • Exercising regularly 

In order to treat gastric cancer, there are several approaches available. Depending on the symptoms of the patient, the stage and spread of cancer, the age and overall patient health, the following treatments may be used alone or in combination, 

  • Surgery 

  • Chemotherapy

  • Radiation therapy

  • Targeted drug therapy

  • Immunotherapy

  • Supportive (palliative) care

Canmab 150mg Injection is a medicine containing trastuzumab that is used in the treatment of advanced gastric cancer. It is a type of targeted therapy medicine. This medicine acts by binding selectively to HER2 and stopping cancer from growing. It is important to use effective birth control during the treatment and for at least 7 months after the last dose of this medicine.
