Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) is a brain injury that occurs when the head is suddenly and violently hit or shaken, causing the brain to move within the skull and potentially hit against the skull’s interior, leading to head injury.   •  Always wear seat belts when riding in a car or using other motor vehicles. 
  • Ensure children are secured in appropriate car seats and wear helmets when riding bikes or playing sports. 
  • Take measures to prevent falls, such as keeping floors and stairs clear, using non-slip mats, and using step stools safely.  
  • Consumption of alcohol and drugs can affect body coordination, leading to a higher risk of accidents and head injuries.  
  • Drive safely by following the traffic rules, avoid distracted or impaired driving, and use appropriate safety devices, such as seat belts and airbags.  
  • Manage underlying health conditions, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and seizures, which can also increase the risk of falls and other accidents.
  • Take a sturdy step stool with you when reaching for high objects.
